 FAQs

  • Couples therapy can be such a powerful way to heal and reconnect, but it’s normal to wonder if it’s the right move for you. Therapy tends to work best when both partners are willing to show up with honesty, openness, and respect.

If there’s active addiction, abuse, or any fear of emotional or physical retaliation, it might be safer to start with individual support first. You deserve to feel safe before working on the relationship itself.

  • At Relational Realm, we work with all kinds of relationships, because love doesn’t fit into one box. We welcome LGBTQIA+ couples, non-monogamous, dating, premarital and long-term relationships, and couples navigating major life transitions, parenting, or trauma recovery.

Our approach is inclusive, trauma-informed, and affirming. That means we honor your relationship structure, gender identities, and cultural backgrounds while helping you build safety, trust, and emotional connection.

Whether you’re working through communication breakdowns, healing after betrayal, or wanting to deepen intimacy, couples therapy with a trauma-informed lens can help you reconnect in a way that feels authentic and secure for your relationship.

  • Absolutely. Trauma-informed couples therapy can be deeply healing, even when one partner has experienced more trauma than the other. It’s very common for partners to have different histories, levels of sensitivity, or coping styles shaped by past experiences.

Using Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) and trauma-informed care, your therapist helps both partners understand how trauma responses like withdrawal, hypervigilance, or people-pleasing can affect connection. Instead of focusing on blame, we explore how you can both build emotional safety and trust together.

We also offer individual therapy for partners of trauma survivors who want space to understand their own triggers, boundaries, and emotional needs while supporting their loved one.

  • with Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), a proven, short-term, high-impact approach, many partners start noticing positive shifts within the first few sessions. EFT helps couples get to the root of recurring conflict by identifying the emotional patterns underneath it, not just the surface arguments.

Most couples begin to feel more connected and understood within 8–12 sessions, depending on how often you meet and how much practice you do between sessions. The goal isn’t just to stop fighting, it’s to build a secure emotional bond that lasts long after therapy ends.

Even small insights early on can make a big difference. When both partners are engaged and open, EFT couples therapy can create lasting change in a surprisingly short time.

  • We meet online through JaneApp, a secure, HIPAA-compliant video platform made for telehealth. Once you set up your account, you can easily schedule sessions, manage payments, and meet with your therapist all in one place.

It’s simple, private, and designed to make online couples therapy and individual counseling feel just as personal and supportive as in-person sessions.

  • At Relational Realm, we’re a concierge therapy practice—which means we don’t work directly with insurance companies. Why? Because most insurance plans try to control the length, frequency, and methods of your therapy. As trauma-informed therapists, we believe your care should be guided by your unique story, not by an insurance company’s checklist.

Insurance also requires therapists to “justify” treatment by labeling clients as sick or not improving. That goes against everything we stand for. You are not broken.

That said, we make it easy to get reimbursed for your sessions. We provide superbills for out-of-network reimbursement, and yes, insurance can reimburse for couples therapy. We know exactly how to code your sessions so you can get the most out of your benefits.

  • $125 - $250 (Interns - current waitlist)

    $175 (Associate Licensed Therapist)

    $250 (Licensed therapist)

    $350 (Owner)

Relational Realm provides superbills for out of network insurance reimbursement. And yes, insurance companies reimburse for couples therapy. We know how to code for reimbursement!

  • All cancellations made sooner than 48 hours before an appointment will not incur a charge. If you cancel your appointment less than 48 hours before it is scheduled, you will be subject to the full charge of the session. Likewise, a “no-show” charge of the full cost of the session will be incurred if you miss a scheduled session with no notice. If you are more than 15 minutes late to your appointment, it is considered a “no show” and you will be responsible for the session fee.
